What American accent do you have? Your Result: The Northeast
Judging by how you talk you are probably from north Jersey, New York City, Connecticut or Rhode Island. Chances are, if you are from New York City (and not those other places) people would probably be able to tell if they actually heard you speak. | |

But I am puzzled by the last sentence. What does it mean? Is it trying to be funny?

I took the quiz, and, of course, I have a Northeast accent. No real surprise there, though I would note that most foreigners do not peg me as a "New Yorker" per se, though I was born and raised in New York City, in the boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn. Americans from other parts of the country certainly do notice the differences, which mark my accent as Northeastern. Strangely, those from Boston and the South seem most keenly attuned to my Northeast/Mid-Atlantic accent (The Bostonians in particular, since they consider their accent the "true" Northeastern one.) They say it has something to do with the diphthongs; well, a slip of the tongue by any name...

I cannot believe that I have an "Inland North" accent. That quiz is ridiculous and not trustworthy.
