Cooklooks New words shouldn't look like typos, but all the same I propose to apply this term to food magazines featuring alluring photographs of faraway places and recipes requiring access to ultrahip markets. Although Gourmet and Saveur always pack a bundle of recipes, they're really too nice for the kitchen, and of little to no use for ordinary household cooking. On the contrary, they're like the fashion magazines full of clothes that nobody is ever seen wearing. Of vastly greater use to the home cook are Cook's Illustrated and Fine Cooking; the former is in my opinion indispensable. Now that Gourmet no longer dishes up recipes that serve two people, it's really of no use to me.
