Angela Hewitt at Grace Rainey Rogers
At Angela Hewitt's recital last Thursday, Ms NOLA stayed in her seat during the interval, and when I came back from my customary errand she told me that people had been walking up and staring at the piano as if they'd never seen one before. Well, I told her, they haven't. I certainly hadn't. Emblazoned on the side of the box, instead of the usual lyre and "Steinway," was FAZIOLI. I've read about this magnificent upstart piano manufacturer, located north of Venice, but I've never heard one of its instruments.
In a word, Wow.
Angela Hewitt was no slouch, either.

I wish it had been I who accompanied you to this concert. May I "wow" your "wow"? What recording do you recommend I start out with? And why do you wish she'd been playing Chopin instead of Schumann? I drool at pianists who can play the Sonatas, the one form by the one composer I could never even approach. OK, well, all the late Romantics, too, truth to tell.

Schumann, Chopin I could listen to either and on a dreadful day like we had in Boston yesterday, a nice warm concert hall would have been preferable to schlepping because you started to cook and went oops! Glad to hear that Ms. Hewitt was a Wow.
